Two fer One! Wooooow….I know, you’re impressed. The Ugly Duckling Debutante & The Seduction of Sebastion St. James

Author: Nikki

So here is the deal.  Why, you may ask yourself.  Have you been blessed with two, not just one, but two reviews.  I will reveal to you, the answer now.  I read the blurb for a book, panted after it, and placed it on my TBR List.  About a week or so ago (I have 5 kids, time moves differently for me)  I saw something to request a copt of the book for review.  I got all excited, almost soiled myself, and requested it.  A couple of days later it was in our mailbox.  I almost ran around the house like Kevin, from Home Alone.  Yes, I get that excited over books.  You should hear me when I win a book from a giveaway.  Anyhoo, I got the book, downloaded it and took a look at the authors page on goodreads.  Imagine my surprise when I see that I am in fact getting ready to read the second book.  Ok, it wasn’t really suprise,  I’ve done it before and like Brittney, oops – I’ll do it again.  So I had my inner ass kicking dialog about paying more attention to what is aaarroooouunnd the blurb and not just to the story itself.  Then these things wouldn’t happen to me.  So I went and bought the first one to read before the one I requested.  Because heaven knows my head would implode if I read books out of order or just ones here and there.  It just does not happen.  I’m twitching just thinking about it…  So there is the long winded reason.  What?  I’m at home with two pre-schoolers all day, you’ll have that.  And Now (keep your drawers on)  Here It Is!

Main Character Sara, has always been told by her demeaning parents and sisters that she is ugly.   She has come to accept that she will be a spinster, who would marry her?  Her parents have already made it well known of her worthlessness and haven’t even settled a dowry on her.

Then her sisters elope with twin brothers “of no means” to Gretna Greene.  It is then left up to Sara to go to London for her first (and only) season and land a husband.  She is the only hope for her lousy family.  Her Aunt, Lady Fenton spirits her off to do “what she can” to get Sara married to a titled gentleman.  Upon reaching London, she is to go to her first Ball.  She runs into Nicholas Devons, a reformed former rake in a hallway, attempting to catch a respite from her first gala.

Nicholas Devons, the retired rake. Yum.  Has given up beautiful women and carnal (I love that word) pleasures.  Carnal…Carnival…They can both be fun!  Consequently, he becomes bored with life.  He meets up with a good friend at the fete and ends up making a bet.  That he will abstain from woman and rendezvous.  In return for winning the bet he will win the coveted feather among the ton.  After said bet he bumps into Sara, who he immediately is attracted to.  They share a searing kiss and Sara appologizes for her uncomely behaviour and leaves the ball with her aunt.  Leaving Devons still in lust.

The next morning Sara is informed that Lady Fenton’s cousin will be tutoring her in the ways of the ton.

The next morning Nicholas regrets making a promise to his cousin to tutor a young lady for her first Season in London.  He gets dressed and leaves for his appointment, hoping that at least it will prove to be amusing….

I do adore my historical romances, after all, I like so many others, am in love with Mr Darcy.  I thought this was a really good book and therefore gave it…wait for it…

And now the book I requested and so kindly received!

Duke of Tempest Sebastian St. James arrives at his friend Nicholas Devons home to ask for a place to stay during the season.  He also attempts to enlist Nicholas and his wife Sara’s help in finding him a wife this upcoming season.  Sara has her cousin Emma Gates also coming to stay with them during her season to look for a husband to pacify her parents.  With that in common both Sebastian, escorting Emma, leave for their first ball that night.

At the ball both escape outside to the balcony for a breath of fresh air and to take a break from the assembly.  Crouched and hiding Sebastian and Emma make a game out of pegging unsuspecting people nearby.  The winner gets a kiss.  Emma misses her first target and Sebasian nails his right in the forehead.   Emma hits her next two targets and Sebastian misses.  The winner gets their kiss and they get busted by Nicholas also.   As their punishment Nicholas makes an announcement the whole ball hears, that Emma and Sebastian will announce at the upcoming Fenton ball their choices for whom they wish to court.

The following morning Sebastian shares his plan he came up with on how to avert Nicholas’s announcement from the previous night.  His plan is that he and Emma will pretend to be engaged.  Giving them both the opportunity to find the perfect suitors.  Emma excepts with the stipulation that they get to choose eachothers husband/wife.  The announce their engagement at the next ball and travel to a house party at Rawlings’ estate in the country.  Where they would do some scouting for whom they would like to match with.

I adored this book!  It’s titillating and hillarious at turns.  Emma and Sebastian are both smart asses.  And lord knows how I do love a smart ass!  So wonder on over to purchase both of these books.  Hell, get all four!  I know I’m going to continue the House of Renwick series.  And now for the smoochies…

Tah-dah!
