Here! We! Go!!
in case you forgot – or just want to ogle at it like me – here’s the amazing cover to A Night of Southern Comfort by Robin Covington:
One night of passion…
Detective Jackson Cantrell never imagined that one night with an irresistible stranger would turn his life upside down. He’s spent years living in the shadows, but Dr. Michaela Roarke awakened a passion inside him he’d buried years ago.
He never expected the woman would turn out to be the governor’s daughter…and his next assignment. The governor blackmails Jackson to secretly watch over Michaela and protect her from a stalker, or kiss his dream job at the FBI good-bye. Swearing to keep things strictly professional, Jackson moves in with Michaela. Too bad his heart can’t keep the same promise.
But when the stalker’s attacks quickly escalate beyond mere photographs to bodily harm, Jackson must race to save Michaela’s life. And he’ll have to figure out how to keep her once she discovers his lie.
are you excited – I am – check it out!!
When you are writing, do you have a ritual that you have to follow to be comfortable and productive?
I don’t have any rituals but I do need at least an hour to get something really productive done. I can’t get into the manuscript in 15 minutes. And, I always have Haribo gummi bears close by – they are my snack of choice.
Do you have a specific or special place that you do your writing?
I write in my closet – it is 19-feet long and my office is at the last 6 feet – and after I’m home from work, I spend time with the kids and the Main Man and retreat to my closet. I turn on my music and settle down in my comfy chair and write for a couple of hours. I think the act of walking in the closet and shutting the door put me “in the mood”.
Where do you find your inspiration for your stories?
Everywhere. I watch people, I watch movies and read constantly to keep the pump prime. And I also have a little secret . . . I subscribe to “Cosmopolitan” magazine and I have a notebook full of clippings about dating, sex, men. I’m 43 and while I think I’m amazingly cool and sexy, I’m not the same age as the characters I write about. It gives me wonderful ideas.
Do you base your characters on people you know or do your characters just show up in your head?
They show up in my head but as I’m writing them I always notice little things in their personality that reminds of people I know. For instance, Jackson’s quiet demeanor is just like a friend of mine from college. He was big and could be very intimidating but once you got to know him, he was a big softie.
While you write, do you listen to music?
Yes! If I have quiet, I get distracted and my mind wanders.
Speaking of music, what are your favorite artists? What are you listening to currently?
Oh – you don’t know what danger you are in by opening up the music discussion. I’ve sung in a band since I was 10 years old and I love music of all types. My favorite artists are Matt Nathanson, Sugarland, Missy Higgins, and some old school Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash.
Right now, I’m writing Lucky’s book (the sequel to A Night of Southern Comfort) so I’ve got his playlist on all the time. Some of the songs on it is:
“Turning Home” by David Nail
“Mama’s Broken Heart” by Miranda Lambert
“Heaven” by Jake Owen
“Drunk on You” by Luke Bryan
“Thank God for Hometowns” by Carrie Underwood.
****SQUEE – I think I just died a little – I’m so excited to see what’s next from Robin!! & I love authors with playlists they are willing to share**
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Sitting down and doing it. I get so itchy when I have ideas and scenes in my head and I can’t wait to sit down and put my fingers on the keyboard. My absolute favorite part of the book to write is the sex scenes. I love to write hot but they are also the very best way to show character growth – and with me it’s all about the characters.
What is your process of choosing your book covers?
I get an art form from my publisher and they ask me to describe the book, the characters appearance, if I based them on anyone, and my general ideas about the book. I actually found the cover photo for ANoSC and sent it in as an example for what I thought evoked the relationship between Jackson and Kayla and I was so surprised when I saw they used it.
I. Love. My. Cover.
Who are your favorite authors?
Harper Fox writes the absolute best emotional stories and Jill Shalvis is a genius at sexy humor. I love the way Hank Edwards writes physical humor that is pitch perfect. I eat up all of the books by Jo Davis because she writes romantic suspense so well. Oh, and Josh Lanyon is a poet with words.
What is on the top of your to be read pile right now?
I just finished “The Other Soldier” by Kathy Altman which was fantastic! I just began “Armed and Dangerous” by Abigail Roux. It is a continuing series with two of my favorite characters, Ty & Zane.
Who’s this amazing author you ask? well – - read on my friend!
On her fortieth birthday, Robin Covington decided that having a mid-life crisis and finding a boy-toy were far too tacky, so she delved a little deeper into the “bucket list” and pulled out the long-shelved dream of becoming an author. Now, she spends her time writing sizzling romance where the hero and heroine can’t keep their hands off each other.
She doesn’t miss the boy-toy at all.
