My Review

I always walk into a book with two things. First I believe it will be a decent book, good read. Second, I try to go in cold without reading the blurb because I think more than not, too much is given away in the summary.

So, when I opened this book, I wasn’t expected to be blown away. Yet, I couldn’t put this book down. Once I got past the cheeky names of some of the characters, I was all in.

I loved the character development in this story. This isn’t the average pretty girl waiting to be discovered by the hottest guy in school/on campus/billionaire run in. No this book takes a girl with issues and develops this story around her crazy life.

And I must admit I really thought I had this book figured out, but I have it on good authority I’m all wrong. Which is a good thing. I love surprises.

I really enjoyed this one and would recommend. Although it starts in high school, I would consider this a New Adult book because the character is already 18 and this series will
be more about her life after high school.

Pick this one up, a solid read.

Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense.

Whoa. Heavy. Wow. Very… I haven’t found the right word, but close ones are:intense, heady, complex, engrossing, and compelling.

Very Brave New World feel, and even a dash of Clockwork Orange thrown in. BUT… it’s just so meaty with the new world and new terms, alot to chew and digest in a story. It had a very different society and attitudes from us, like in Brave New World. It had ‘society’ looking down on non-society. It has levels of hierarchy within the society as well. And like Clockwork Orange, it’s got ‘new’ words, and a glossary to go with them.

Another strange comparison that ran through my mind… the Kate Daniels series. It’s similar in that there is tons of world building, so much so that there is a sacrifice, I felt of more in-depth characterization. I almost gave up during the first book of the Kate Daniels series because there was just SO much. But it was totally worth it, and I’m hooked on it. So, this is like that first Kate Daniels. I see potential, but I really think it’s future books that will sway a reader to continue or swear a reader away from this series.

Another aspect that may be an automatic no-go for some readers: while this is NOT a religious book, there is much talk about religion. Religions are ALL considered cults except for ‘government’ church which is more of an etiquette, rules, and expectations pep-talk. I didn’t find it offensive in any way, but religion is at best, frowned upon, at worst annihilated.

If you are a fan of Brave New World, Clockwork Orange, maybe even liked Delirium or The Dwellers series but want to try a ‘grown-up’ version, then I would recommend giving this a go.

Our heroine Serena is a foul mouthed and funny take no shit kid of girl which I love. She is sucked into the world of the Luxen and Arum when her best friend Mel witnesses her Luxen boyfriend goes all light bright during a fight with his brother. Terrified she contacts her best friend and dishes all the dirty details to Serena.

Serena may first think Mel’s crazy…

“Yes. He lit up like a freaking glow stick or—or you remember those toys that you squeeze and they light up?”
“A Glo Worm?”
“That!” Mel pulled her hand free and thrust it through her chin-length, raven-colored hair. “He was like a Glo Worm but only brighter.”
Oh dear. She was definitely rocking the crazy pants. “Were you guys drinking or possibly smoking something—”

Then a Luxen shows up and proves Mel is perfectly sane. Enter Hunter, the Arum the DOD sends in to protect Serena.

“This guy was all kinds of inappropriate.”

Oh where do I start? How much did I love Hunter? Well let’s just say he is an instant panty dropping addition to the top book boyfriends list. He’s dark, hot, mysterious, hot, sexy, hot, demanding, and did I say hot?

I have to go with Heather Ricco’s find on this one, this guy was just to perfect, here’s our Hunter

Arum are nothing like we have glimpsed in the Lux series. As with every race you have your good and your bad seeds. I love this look deeper into Armentrout’s alien world. Obsession has everything you expect from an Armentrout book snark, humor, heat, a lovable heroine, a deliciously sexy bad boy, emotions galore, and epic surprises.

Pick up this series immediately you will not be disappointed!

Synopsis

Somehow they’re able to strike a balance in their dysfunctional on-again, off-again relationship however.

This balance is disrupted however when a strange boy named Teague enters her life and brings along with him a group of demons. Demons who want to make a deal with her in exchange for the safety of everyone she loves.

Now to protect those she holds most dear, Jewl must rely on the magic she’s been trying so desperately to avoid. But at what cost? Will the boy she loves accept this dark secret, or will she lose him forever?

My Review

What I liked:

the confusing relationship which Jewl & Anj had- you could never guess what they’d do to mess things up next.

Jewl & her insecurities made her feel more likeable while in the first book, she came off as bitchy.

Jewl’s sister is a character that I’d like to read about next- the way she flounces between thinking Jewl cares for her and then not was scary!

My favorites were Anj & Teague, of course.

What I didn’t like:

complete absence of adults- teacher or parents. The kids were free to do what they pleased and none of the characters felt the need to go to an adult when in trouble.

Jewl seemed to take her sister’s torture a bit too easily.

The world in these books need a bit more fleshing out.

My Review

This is one of my favorite authors. If you haven’t read any of her books, you are missing out. What we have here is a story of secrets. And man there are some whoppers. Things happen
in this book that I hadn’t expected at all.

It’s hard not to like the two main characters in this book. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. And when they are forced into the human world, all hell breaks loose, literally,
lol.

What’s surprising is how they handle it? I think that’s where the twist I never saw coming happen. Specifically the party. Mmmm.

This author always has delicious guys in her stories. Don’t believe me, check out other reviews who say the same thing. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

My Break Down and Thoughts

OK, so lately I have been going through the “New Adult” phase. Or anything with some hot monkey loving in it after reading the Fifty Trilogy. One cannot read Fifty and go cold turkey in the hot monkey loving department. Seriously, that could wreck somebody. Any hoo, I have had to have my fill of piercings and tats. I just can’t get enough of them. Sooo HOT!

So, Kelsey and her best friend Jessi, leave home and go to college and get a dorm room together. While Kelsey is quiet and more withdrawn Jessi is extremely outgoing. Their first day of moving in they are at a café eating lunch when Jessi meets her soon to be boyfriend, Landon. At the same table is Kane. Hot, sexy ass Kane. Kelsey gets some eye contact with Kane and the girls head on out once they finish lunch. Later that day Kelsey finds out that Jessi has agreed to meet up with Landon at a local hot spot and talks Kelsey into going with her.

They get to the bar and low and behold Kane works there as a bouncer. Kelsey and Kane exchange some witty rapport and literally run into each other the next day on campus. They both decide to be friends, but of course their mutual attraction takes care of that and they are shortly an item.

During their whirlwind relationship they have to deal with each other’s past, a nut job father, and another guy that has a hard time with letting Kelsey go to Kane. This book sort of reminded me of Beautiful Disaster. But not to the extremes as BD. Still, Kane was hotter then hot flicking that lip ring with his tongue and I really did enjoy reading this and read it in one sitting.

Margo Anne Rhea has written a short but sexy erotica novel, the story is hot, short and complete. They scene’s are well written the story flows right to the end. This is a short story about a couple who hires a sexual surrogate. Because of lack of communication, jealousy, and hurt feelings the marriage nearly falls apart. Can things turn around? Read this short novel and find out. If you like your shorts full of hot sexy scenes this is the story for you.

I have rated Danny a 3.5 stars, and definitely would read anything Margo Anne Rhea writes in the future.

THE MORNING I REALIZED I still had feelings for Danny was a rainy, gloomy one. Just like all those lazy, stormy Saturdays he and I used to spend in bed together–before Stacey. A hand slid up my thigh, pulling me from sleep. I stretched into the caress, reaching out for her. My muscles ached with that well-used, morning-after feeling. How like Stacey–to wake up wanting more.

He exhaled heavily. “Don’t go.” His voice was soft and gravelly. I froze at the sound of it. “Paige, stay.” He tried again, but all his entreaty did was spur me into motion.

My panties were on the floor by my feet, and I wasted no time yanking the pink lace up my legs. The sheet slipped, falling with a soft whoosh onto its fitted counterpart as I stood to pull those panties into place. He moaned the second my ass was covered.

What I liked:

Um..having a character named after me!

it was a fun read

the light humor

the characters of John & Eleanor were my favorites

What I didn’t like:

sometimes, the narrative got a bit repetitive.

I would have liked to know more about the “Life Management” section.

I flew through the book & enjoyed it a lot.

My Review

David delivers as usual. This story is engaging, tugging at our most vulnerable heart strings. Who doesn’t seek the approval of a parent or guardian? His brilliance is wrapping a story around it that’s not only interesting but unique. I love to fall into the pages of a David Estes book.

In this one with get two POVs from main characters whose lives are separate. Huck in water country and Sadie in Storm country. For me these characters have sides to them I don’t like. But I don’t have to like the MC (main character) in order to enjoy the story. It proves true in this installment.

This story is fast pace and it keeps moving. The twist aren’t easily predictable nor do they make me cringe. I love how David eventually ties everything so far together. This story is going to burst at the seams with the next book. The Dwellers meet the Country folk. Should be interesting indeed.

If you haven’t picked up either the Dwellers or the Country series, they are a must read for all young adult lovers as well as those who love a good dystopian.

What I liked:

Um..having a character named after me!

it was a fun read

the light humor

the characters of John & Eleanor were my favorites

What I didn’t like:

sometimes, the narrative got a bit repetitive.

I would have liked to know more about the “Life Management” section.

I flew through the book & enjoyed it a lot.
